  • Ashwaganda, also known as Indian Ginseng, has been shown to reduces stress related DNA damage and cell death. It helps to balance baseline and stress related cortisol levels and has also been shown to reduce the incidence of breast cancer.  It also improves sleep, memory, fertility, and mood, and reduces inflammation and oxidation. It has been shown to improve thyroid hormone conversion and immune system function and it protects the heart and brain against stress and oxidative damage..

  • Cordyceps sinesis is another 'anti-stress' herb which reduces cortisol related DNA damage and cell death and helps to balance baseline and stress related HPA axis function and cortisol levels.  Studies have shown that it also improves energy, athletic performance, sex drive, and immune system function. It is a potent anti-oxidant, anti-cancer herb as well.

  • Eleutherococcus senticossus also known as Siberian Ginseng, is an adaptogenic herb that stress induced DNA damage and cell death and supports healthy HPA axis function.  I also improves energy, stamina, endurance, and mood. It also preserves bone health and reduces breast cancer cell growth.

  • Rhodiola rosea has the same beneficial effects on stress induced HPA axis dysfunction as the other plant adaptogens.  in addition, it has been shown to improve memory, mental function, and concentration, increase energy, and improve anxiety.  Some studies have also shown Rhodiola to be as effective at treating depression as prescription medications. It also protects the heart, prevents osteoporosis, and reduces the growth of breast cancer cells.

  • Ginkgo biloba is a potent anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant herb that has also been shown to enhance sex drive, mood, and memory.  It reduces the symptoms of Premenstrual Tension Syndrome and decreases the activity of the aromatase enzyme which lowers estrogen levels, improves estrogen metabolism, and lowers breast cancer risk. 

  • DIM, short for diindolylmethane, is a phytochemical derived from cruciferous vegetables (i.e. broccoli and cauliflower). Studies have shown that its ability to improve estrogen metabolism and promote the formation of beneficial anti-estrogen metabolites can decrease the incidence of breast and ovarian cancer. It may also indirectly improve thyroid hormone function.  It also helps to balance estrogen dominance through the same mechanisms.

  • Black Cohosh is a phytoestrogen that has been shown to improve symptoms of hot flashes, sex drive, sleep, and memory in perimenopausal and menopausal women. It also has beneficial effects on the bone and brain without adversely affecting the uterus, decreases the growth of breast cancer cells, and increases bone density.  Black Cohosh also decreases psychological and physiological responses to stress.

  • Dioscorea villosa is a phytohormone derived from wild yam, and some of Its actions are similar to those of natural estrogen and progesterone. Some of its benefits include relief from menstrual cramping and endometriosis pain, regulation of hormone cycles, improvement in PMS symptoms, and improved bone mass.  It also functions as an anti-inflammatory agent and has been shown to reduce breast cancer cell growth.

A 2009 study which examined 6282 patients over nearly 19 years found that Panax Ginseng  also reduced the rate of all cause mortality (death from all causes) in men.
  • Tribulus terrestris is an Ayurvedic herb that has been shown to improve sexual performance and erectile function in men.  It is anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and an anti-oxidant which has also been shown to protect the heart and liver and to improve cholesterol. It also improves resistance training performance and reduces associated muscle damage.

  • Saw Palmetto is a plant derived fatty acid that prevents the conversion of testosterone into its more potent metabolite, dihydrotestosterone.  Studies have shown that Saw Palmetto reduces the symptoms and size of an enlarged prostate, reduces hair loss, and promotes new scalp hair growth.  Some studies also appear to indicate that in lowering the dihydrotestosterone levels, Saw Palmetto indirectly raises testosterone levels.

  • Stinging Nettles is an Ayurvedic plant used to promote prostate health, reduce inflammation, and improve blood sugar control, especially in Type II diabetics. Some studies have shown that it reduces prostate size as well as some prescription drugs without side effects.
